THURSDAYS AND HOLIDAYS
On my way to my Kadi Fit class tonight I thought, “Man it would be really nice if I were just going home to lay on the couch right now.” I dont know about you but Thursdays and the holidays are the two toughest times to stay motivated. By Thursday most of us are already exhausted from the week and just want to relax. The holidays also make you feel like relaxing, or you are so busy you simply don’t have time to go to the gym.
So today is Thursday and I was lacking the motivation to exercise. Luckily because I teach the class I do not have any other choice. I say luckily because once I’m there, the second I start the warm-up, every shadow of apathy subsides, and I am filed with sheer happiness. Not only am I happy to be dancing, but I am burning tons of calories.
Thursdays are almost Friday. Friday starts the weekend. Weekends for most people mean less exercise. If you take Friday off, and don’t workout over the weekend, you’re missing 4 days in a row! This is why Thursday is key to keeping a good fitness regimen. Some weekends I am relatively good, and eat healthy. MOST weekends I throw caution to the wind (not good)! But at least with a really good, heart-pumping workout I am burning some calories, and even keeping my metabolism going, instead of starting my weekend early. Taking 4 days of indulgence will never produce results, but simply undoing what you worked for Monday-Wenesday.
So I say all of this not to make you feel totally guilty. Believe me, I know life can be crazy. Really crazy. We live in a world of GO GO GO, never stopping to breathe. Just keep in the back of your mind that if you don’t have time for the gym, throw on your shoes and go for a quick walk or run. Sprints and intervals are a quick, yet effective cardio workout. Then when you go back to work or hitting the books, your mind will be refreshed and you will actually perform better, and possibly quicker.. try it!
